Travel and the Corona Virus
I want to talk about the big elephant in the room; travel and the Corona Virus. Let me preface this by saying that you should always talk to your doctor before travel and that you need to do what’s right for you. The situation is constantly changing and it’s impossible to predict what’s going to happen. That being said, we all work hard and deserve a vacation. It’s nice to have something to look forward to.
Now more than ever is the time to use a travel agent when booking your trip.
Currently, many airlines are offering “fly with confidence” tickets, meaning that they’ll waive the change fees if you need to postpone or change your trip within a certain period of time. I can help you understand the parameters and navigate this promotion and discuss how we can book your trip so that you’re minimizing your risk. There are some great deals happening right now to be taken advantage of. You must hurry though, at this time, most airlines are only offering these tickets if you purchase them during March.
For tickets already purchased, many airlines are offering to waive change fees- but there are parameters around this. Tickets must be purchased for travel during a specific period of time and you must re-book for another specific period of time. Though my partnership with one of the airlines, I was able to get honeymooners whose trip was booked for just outside these parameters a waiver, saving them $600 in change fees.
I have other honeymooners who are traveling to Italy in late April. They still really want to go but need more time to decide. However, their final payment is supposed to be due this week and one of the hotels has a 30-day cancellation policy. I was able to get them an extension on their final payment and get the hotel to reduce their cancellation from 30 days to 7 days.
I think that the most valuable service that I’ve been able to offer my clients during this time is to be an ally and resource of factual information. I’m here to answer any questions and concerns my clients have and monitor the situation concerning their trip. Insurance coverage for coronavirus is convoluted, even for trips planned prior to the outbreak. I help my clients understand their coverage so that they can make the most informed decisions. While the situation is ever evolving and uncertain, it’s nice to have the piece of mind that you have someone on your side watching over your trip and there for you in any emergency.
If you’d like to book a trip but are wary of the situation, I’m happy to talk with you about the risks and options that are available in the current market place. It’s sooo nice to have something to look forward to and I’d like to help make that happen for you. Send email about what you’d like to do and let’s talk.
